EVENT HORIZON

Event Horizon is an artist in residency opportunity and offers private creative space for the visual arts, music, literature and ecology projects.

A Crete based rural retreat for production and experimentation set in 30,000 Sq m (8 acres) of stunningly beautiful olive grove meadows close to the sea. The studio building is created from used shipping containers and is completely insulated.

Using the cosmological phenomenon of the Event Horizon as an analogy for transcendence, there is time and space for creativity.

Accommodation is available, both rented and subsidized.

We selected three 12m steel dry shipping containers from a used cargo dealer in Athens. The containers were then cut in half due to the road access restrictions around Fourni Village. This restriction dictated the design layout which forms a square tunnel with an atrium for natural light.

The 130sqm container studio building is insulated with Polystyrene foamboard and Marine Ply cladding on the outside walls and PolTherma DS sandwich panels on the roof.
